What Makes Lumière Candle Different From Traditional Candles?

Lumière Candle is a refillable, endlessly reusable alternative to traditional wax candles. Instead of melting wax, it uses transparent Lumière Candle Oil and reusable steel wicks with fiberglass cores to create a warm, steady flame.

There is no melting wax, no drips and no candle to throw away once it has burned down. When the oil runs low, you simply refill the vessel and light it again.

It is a different way of experiencing candlelight – designed around simplicity, longevity and beautiful design.

What is Lumière Candle?

Created by ESMÉ LABS, Lumière Candle combines the atmosphere of traditional candlelight with the functionality of a refillable oil candle.

The design consists of a transparent glass vessel, three reusable steel wicks with fiberglass cores and Lumière Candle Oil. Unlike a conventional candle, the vessel and wicks are not consumed as the candle burns. The oil is the only component that needs to be replenished.

The result is a candle designed to stay with you rather than slowly disappear.

How does Lumière Candle work?

The principle behind Lumière Candle is surprisingly simple and is based on the same fundamental technology used in oil lamps.

Lumière Candle Oil is poured directly into the glass vessel. The steel wicks are then placed into the oil and left for 30 minutes before the first lighting.

Inside each steel wick is a fiberglass core. The fiberglass absorbs the oil and carries it upward toward the tip, where the fuel creates the flame.

Once lit, the three steel wicks create Lumière's signature candlelight while the transparent vessel leaves the entire design visible.

And when you are finished, there is no special extinguishing process – simply blow out the flames.

A candle without melting wax

One of the most noticeable differences between Lumière Candle and a traditional candle is what happens as it burns.

A conventional candle gradually consumes its wax, changing shape and eventually reaching the end of its life. Lumière works differently.

There is no melting wax, no dripping and no wax residue to clean from the vessel or surrounding surfaces. The glass vessel remains unchanged while the oil is gradually consumed.

Once the oil runs low, more can simply be poured in.

Designed to be used again and again

Lumière was created around a simple idea: the beautiful part of a candle shouldn't have to be thrown away.

The glass vessel, steel wicks and funnel are all designed for repeated use. The only consumable part of the candle is the oil.

This also makes refilling intentionally uncomplicated. There is no wax to melt, replacement candle to insert or new wick to prepare. Simply add Lumière Candle Oil to the vessel and continue using the same candle.

The ritual stays. The candle stays. Only the oil needs a refill.

Unscented by design

Lumière Candle Oil is transparent, unscented and made from highly refined and purified paraffin oil produced in the Netherlands.

There is no added fragrance, so the candle does not introduce perfume into the room while burning. It is designed simply to provide candlelight.

For people who prefer fragrance-free interiors or find strongly scented candles overwhelming, this makes Lumière a particularly simple way to enjoy the atmosphere of a flame without adding another scent to the space.

When used correctly, Lumière Candle burns without visible smoke or soot and leaves no wax residue behind.

How long does Lumière Candle burn?

One 500 ml refill of Lumière Candle Oil provides approximately 40+ hours of candlelight.

Actual burn time can vary depending on factors such as flame size, wick positioning and conditions in the room.

Once the oil has been used, there is no need to replace the candle itself. Refill the vessel, allow the wicks to absorb the oil and light it again.

Made to be seen

Functionality is only part of what makes Lumière different.

The three slender steel wicks crossing inside a transparent glass vessel give the candle a sculptural quality even when it isn't lit. Once the flames are burning, the metal, glass and warm light become part of the interior rather than simply another candle placed within it.

It was designed for people who care as much about the objects in their home as the atmosphere those objects create.

Each Lumière Candle Set also arrives in minimal white gift-ready packaging with gold detailing. The presentation is part of the experience – one of the reasons Lumière has become especially popular as a gift.

A different kind of candle ritual

There is something timeless about lighting a candle. Lumière wasn't designed to change that feeling.

It was designed to remove some of the things that usually come with it: melted wax, dripping, leftover candle jars and repeatedly replacing something you love.

Pour. Light. Blow out. Refill.

The result is a candle that feels familiar when it is burning, but works very differently from the candles we have known before.
